शिक्षक दिन

Teacher’s Day(शिक्षक दिन) is all about celebrating the noble profession of teaching. The day is celebrated in India with great enthusiasm. On this day, teachers of schools and colleges are given gifts by their students as a token of appreciation and respect. It is observed on 5th September every year by different schools and colleges. Teacher’s Day(शिक्षक दिन) has been celebrated in India since 1964 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the second Indian President Mr. S. Radhakrishnan. He believed that teachers are the best minds in the world. His love and respect for teachers made the country adopt his birthday as Teacher’s Day in his remembrance.

In 1996, UNESCO declared 5th October as World Teachers’ Day. The day helps people understand the role teachers play in students’ academic development, and thus society in general. Teachers’ Day is a day to recognize every teacher’s efforts and achievements, to draw the world’s attention to their voices and opinions.

Even though the day has been celebrated in India since 1964, it was limited to the boundaries of the nation. It took more than three decades for the UN body to recognize that this day should be celebrated on the global level as World Teachers’ Day(शिक्षक दिन).
