Curriculum Development

Curriculum Development refers to the procedure of improving the curriculum. In the past, numerous techniques have been used to prepare curricula. Some of the commonly used approaches to curriculum development include:

1. Analysis (Task analysis, need analysis)

2. Selecting (Choosing appropriate teaching methods and assessment methods)

3. Design (Objective-design)

4. Formation (It includes the formation of the curriculum evaluation committee)

5. Review (Review committee for curriculum development)

There is no perfect curriculum in this world. Curriculum development heavily depends on the geographical conditions and the demographics of the population. If on the one hand, some curriculum is arts dominated others focus more on science and technology. However, when compared, some curricula prove to be more effective due to unique approaches. It makes it easier to plan the lessons.

A curriculum that strives to ensure a balance in society while allowing for the plurality of education is the humanistic curriculum. It is based on intercultural education.

Models of Curriculum Development

There are two chief forms or categories of the curriculum today. One is the product model. Its focus is only on results, and the prime objective of such a curriculum is on grades and not on the learning process.

The second model is the process model. It is more open-minded. The focus of this model is on developing learning over some time. When working on the development, these two models must be taken into consideration.

As the world around us changes constantly, curriculums need to be revised regularly. With discoveries happening and technology advancing, educators have to be on their toes while continuously reinventing themselves. Innovative teaching techniques need to be carved to provide the students with the best learning experience. For instance, schools and colleges are using the school lms to improve the learning experience for students. These educational lms have shown a positive impact on student collaboration in the classrooms.
